‘The City of Bath lies in the South-West of England; its economy relies heavily on tourism that brings trade to the city. Its golden stone facades are unique, the local stone has occupied the gaze of tourists for more than two hundred years while its spa waters have healed them for much longer. The stone then that is synonymous with the city has been witness to much change. It has witnessed my childhood and my formative years, it has witnessed the births and deaths of my family and friends, and it has never shown any sympathy, it has remained solid, inert and permanent.  My memories then are like pictures cast upon the stone as shadows. Representative but never whole, they become symbolic for more than they can depict. Like my experiences and memories, they become fractured, the surface of the stone corrupts the fine details so only a symbolic representation of a whole remains. As one attempts to get closer in the search for fact amongst the distorted representation, the fine details are obliterated into total abstraction.’
